Artist Jay Shells channeled his love of hip hop music and his uncanny sign-making skills towards a brand new project: “Rap Quotes.” For this ongoing project, Shells created official-looking street signs quoting famous rap lyrics that shout out specific street corners and locations.

I would be legitimately interested in playing a few versions in this great CH article by Mike Trapp. Anyone interested?

I thought I was done with this kind of stuff. But this is great.
God Bless America.

Artist Appreciation: Phil Noto’s Hank Pym’s Photo Archive.

This is one of my favorite projects by an artist. Not only is each of his works beautifully detailed, but Noto also seems to turn these fictional superheroes into real life people. I love the use of actual dates in order to show us a glimpse into the real lives of these characters. I feel like I would see this “photographs” in old issues of TIME Magazine or something. Fantastic.

Previous Phil Noto posts: Havok and Polaris, Betsy Braddock (1983), and Winter Storm (1978)

My Star Wars Sequel Idea: Brothers of the Force

Introduction: This story has existed in one form or another since about 2003/4. It began, as I imagine many Star Wars conversations do, between two bored coworkers, sitting in a parked car, waiting for their next job to start. Since then, I’ve kept it rolling around the back of my head, smoothing out some edges and picking my favorite parts. There are still big holes in the story outline, and some moments that cross book canon or video game canon, which I admit I am neither that well-versed in, nor am I altogether that interested in immersing myself in. Without killing me for canonical errors, I need you, the internet, to help in making this story a reality. Artists, art! Writers, write! Help me fill in the blanks on this blacksploitation Star Wars epic, Brothers of the Force! You’re my only hope!

A Word on the Recent Internet Controversies Surrounding the UCB Theater

thechrisgethardshow:

This blog is geared towards disseminating information about The Chris Gethard Show and the world related to it. Fans of TCGS, please pardon me as I post something that’s more geared towards the NY comedy community in particular.

I haven’t been around the UCB Theater much in the past few months. I’ve largely gone on hiatus from improvising as I face burn out in a number of other projects and areas of life. That being said, I’ve been performing at the UCB Theater since I was 19 years old and consider it my home away from home. The UCB community is one I believe in strongly - so strongly, in fact, that I have opted continuously to stay in New York and take my chances on this coast rather then head to Los Angeles where I’m pretty confident I could clean up as a character actor who gets all the weird Clint Howard roles.

Recently, a controversy has brewed online coming from the stand up community. It largely revolves around this - shows an audience is charged for do not result in the performers being paid at the UCB Theater. Because I haven’t been around the theater much, I hadn’t really heard about all this online chatter. Last night, I read up on all of it. My opinions are below:
